Sugar Baby Watermelon

The Danny DeVito of Watermelons.

This small and intensely sweet Watermelon has a juicy bright red flesh. Due to its dark exterior and size, it closely resembles a gem squash. Perfect for the home gardener that has limited space.

Planting:

  • Watermelons require a long growing season, so plant the seeds in your Rootbox by mid-August indoors.
  • The warmer the seeds are, the quicker they will germinate.
  • Move them outdoors to full sunlight by mid September. You can expect them to reach maturity in approximately 80 days from germination.
  • As watermelons grow along vines, provide a support to promote climbing.

*Rootbox hint – Once the fruit have developed, hang them in an old onion sack or stocking to keep them off the ground – This will stretch along with the melons as they grow

*Fun fact – A Greek summertime favourite is cut up Watermelon with Feta cheese. It might sound odd, but give it a try – you won’t look back

Rootbox culinary hint – Strawberry Watermelon Sorbet.
